Plastic strapping:

Today strapping or bundling of palettes and package freights with plastic strap belongs to industrial standard.

This method of load unit securing offers best economical efficiency combined with easiest use.

Like every packaging method bundling requires a suitable choice of the packaging material as well as the strapping tool for the special application. Only the interaction of all involved components ensures an efficient and optimum protection of the goods.

In particular to be transported or stored goods are subject to three essential strains:

  • transport-conditioned influences due to vibrations and the like
  • climatic influences due to temperature variations, humidity, strong solar radiation and the like
  • human influence, e.g. by unproper handling and storage of the goods

All these strains affect the preservation of the tensioning effect, the most important
criterion of an optimum securing of the packaging good. A package is despite strains always optimally bundled when the strap remains close to the packaging good.

There are two types of plastic straps:

a) Polypropylene (PP) strap

PP strap has lower tearing strength resistance with big elongation capability. It is the cheapest way to bundle light to moderately heavy goods which are shipped in a timely manner. Due to its material properties it is not weatherproof and unsuitable for a longer storage of the package.

b) Polyethylen (PET) strap

PET strap is a real alternative to steel strap because it shows a high solidity with low elongation and is thereby suitable for moderately heavy to heavy packages. The strap is weatherproof and it can also be used for the longer-term storage of the goods. Its good shock absorption makes it less sensitive for transport-conditioned influences and rough treatment. Furthermore its tensile capability also allows a close remaining strapping, when the package shrinks a little due to its properties.
